Introduction
A prominent hospital equipment distributor based in Yorkshire recently faced the logistical challenge of managing large-scale inventory arriving in double-stacked 40ft shipping containers. To maintain a seamless supply chain for critical medical equipment, the company partnered with Edmolift to install a heavy-duty double scissor mechanism lift platform. This installation highlights a brilliantly effective solution for complex lorry and container loading applications where standard dock levelling is insufficient.
Problem
The distributor struggled with the inherent dangers and inefficiencies of unloading double-stacked 40ft containers, which require significant vertical reach and stability. Standard loading docks often lack the height and weight capacity to handle such intensive logistical demands safely. Without a dedicated lifting solution, the process was slow and posed potential safety risks to personnel handling high-value hospital equipment, necessitating a robust system that could bridge the gap between the vehicle and the warehouse floor.
Solution
Edmolift provided a custom-engineered double scissor lift platform featuring a massive 3500mm x 2000mm surface area to accommodate large loads comfortably. To ensure the highest level of safety and functionality, the lift was flush-pit installed and equipped with a 2000kg load capacity, a powered bridge plate for seamless transitions, and comprehensive handrail barriers. Furthermore, protective blinds were integrated into the design to safeguard the internal mechanisms and enhance operator safety during the vertical transit of goods.
Results
The installation has completely transformed the distributor’s unloading operations, allowing double-stacked containers to be processed safely and with ease. By using the 2000kg capacity and the stability of the double scissor mechanism, the Yorkshire facility has significantly reduced unloading times and improved worker ergonomics. This flush-installed solution provides a clear, unobstructed floor area when not in use while delivering a heavy-duty, reliable platform that ensures critical hospital supplies reach their destination without delay.
